On-Site SEO Using Title and Description Meta Tags
Today I will be talking about the proper use of the title and description meta tags to increase your on-site seo and give you better visibility in the search engines. Think of the title as being the headline and the description as the attention grabber. Most search engines will use your title tag as the clickable link to your site and the contents of your description tag as the description displayed in the search results. If your title and description doesn’t get the searchers attention and make them want to visit your site there will be no benefit in having your site appear within the search results.
For this example we will assume that your web page deals with ways to increase your page rank.
The title tag should include your most important keywords. Avoid using phrases like “homepage” or “My website”. Instead, use a keyword specific headline such as “Increase Your Page Rank with these search engine optimization techniques”.
The description meta tag should expand upon the title and should also include your target keywords. An example using the page rank page:
“Learn how to increase your Page Rank with better seo. Improve your search engine rankings with these easy techniques. Bring more traffic to your website by improving your ranking in the search results.”
This is just an example of how you should do your title and meta tags, but you can easily see that I used important keywords like page, rank, increase, search, engine, optimization, seo, ranking and improve.
It is also important that these particular keywords appear within the body of text. You should use a keyword density tool to be sure that these words appear more than any others on the page.
