The use of appropriate keywords in your anchor text is a crucial part of your seo. Having a link to your site with a simple anchor such as, “visit my site” or, worse yet just the url, will not provide you the maximum benefits in having a backlink.

Often when you get a backlink you do not have control over how the anchor will be treated, but if you have a choice always use your target keywords. Try to select 3 or 4 of your most important keywords and construct a phrase using them. Your choice of keywords will vary from page to page. You do not want to use the same anchor text for a link to your home page as you would for an internal page.

Using the Page Rank tutorial site as an example I chose the following keywords; page, rank, increase, search, engine, optimization, seo, ranking and improveOnce you have a list, using your keywords to create effective anchors is easy. You will want to vary your anchors to make your back links the most effective. Some examples could be; “Increase your page rank”, “search engine optimization techniques”, and “better search engine ranking”. There other ways that these keywords could be used.

Experiment with your own target keywords and phrases to get the best results.
